Growing & Tree CareDo lichens and air plants growing on mango bark need to be scraped off?
Common lichens and nonparasitic epiphytes use bark as a support rather than feeding on the tree. Scraping can injure the bark without addressing a real problem. Identify the growth before acting, especially if the mango is also declining. Poor canopy growth may make surface organisms more noticeable, but their presence alone does not establish the cause of decline.
