A major root folded back on itself can compromise transport and anchorage along an important structural pathway. Fine peripheral roots present a different scale of problem. Evaluate the root's position and size rather than treating every bend as equally serious. Ask the nursery to assess stock with major kinks; planting it into a larger hole does not straighten an established woody deformation.
