Small temporary branches can contribute to trunk thickening while the permanent framework develops above them. Manage their size so they do not become competing structural limbs, then remove them progressively when their role ends. This is a production-stage choice rather than a reason to preserve every low shoot indefinitely. Growth below the graft still requires separate identification.
