Bud-burst rate concerns the proportion of observed units that begin growth. Shoot number also reflects how much branching occurs on units that respond. Keep the denominator and observation period explicit when comparing treatments. A treatment can activate fewer parent units yet produce many shoots on each, so a single total does not describe the entire vegetative response.
