A compost analysis describes material supplied, while nutrient release depends on the material and conditions after application. Counting every pound of total nitrogen as immediately available can overstate short-term supply; ignoring compost entirely can understate accumulated inputs. Keep application history and the analysis together, and obtain an interpretation appropriate to the material. Check tree response and subsequent tests rather than assigning a universal release percentage to every compost.
