Urea conversion near the surface can release ammonia to the atmosphere, especially under conditions favoring volatilization. A dry-looking surface does not guarantee that the process is absent. Follow a locally suitable application plan and product instructions for placement and watering. The risk concerns nitrogen loss; it should not be addressed by automatically adding a larger compensating dose.
