The coating regulates nutrient movement from the granule. Mechanical damage can release nutrients much faster than intended and undermine the planned feeding period. Use preparation equipment and handling practices that preserve the coating. A blend containing broken prills should not be assumed equivalent to the same product mixed intact, even when the total fertilizer weight is unchanged.
