Some soil surfaces develop more negative charge as pH rises, so measured exchange capacity can depend on the analytical conditions. A standardized-pH result and a result representing current soil conditions need not be interchangeable. Ask the laboratory which value was reported before interpreting a change. The difference may reflect the method or pH environment rather than a sudden gain of clay.
