The collector must receive drainage without admitting unrelated sprinkler water or allowing the pot to reabsorb what has drained. Keep its setup from changing the plant's normal irrigation exposure. Include the full event and appropriate drainage period. A carefully measured volume is still misleading if collection geometry adds water that never passed through the substrate or removes it again afterward.
