Mechanical resistance changes with moisture as well as compaction and texture. Compare readings under defined moisture conditions and at relevant depths rather than ranking sites from measurements taken after different weather. A high dry-soil reading alone does not identify a compacted layer or determine whether mechanical loosening would benefit the mango's roots.
