Standard gravimetric water content uses water lost during drying relative to dry soil mass, not the original wet mass. Using the wet denominator produces a different quantity. Record both measured masses and the method so the calculation can be checked, rather than treating any percentage labeled soil moisture as methodologically equivalent.
