Give the immediate donor plant its own identity and retain its connection to the earlier source. Do not replace that chain with only the cultivar name when a second generation is distributed. Record which donor supplied each new plant and when collection occurred. This makes it possible to trace a later labeling question back through the propagation chain without implying that every recipient obtained wood directly from the original tree.
