Grafting & PropagationWhy can a mango tissue-culture medium turn brown without visible mold?
Cut mango tissues can release phenolic compounds that discolor the medium and injure the explant. Browning therefore needs assessment separately from visible microbial growth, although both problems can occur together. In a laboratory trial, record when discoloration begins and whether the tissue remains viable. Replacing a contamination treatment alone may leave a phenolic-exudation problem unresolved.
