A clean bench is intended to protect the work from contamination; it does not provide the operator protection of an appropriate biosafety cabinet or chemical fume hood. Match equipment to the actual biological and chemical hazards with the laboratory's safety staff. Filtered airflow around a mango explant is not permission to handle hazardous organisms or volatile chemicals under a cabinet selected only for clean plant transfers.
