Cracked caps, poor seals, or distorted threads can compromise contamination protection and change water loss or gas exchange. Reject or service unsuitable components according to the laboratory's procedure. A clear medium at filling does not make a defective vessel acceptable, because the failure can develop during the period of culture rather than immediately.
