Flowering & PollinationDoes a tiny mango nubbin prove that its flower developed without fertilization?
No. A small malformed fruit can follow fertilization and subsequent embryo failure. Mango reproductive studies have distinguished that sequence from true development without fertilization. Preserve representative specimens and their flowering history if a diagnosis is needed. Fruit size or an apparently empty mature seed cavity alone cannot reconstruct the earlier reproductive events or establish that the tree naturally produces parthenocarpic fruit.
