They describe parentage among the fruit that survived to the sampling stage. Earlier pollen delivery, fertilization, and subsequent retention can each affect which offspring remain. Record the stage of genetic sampling before comparing outcrossing results. A harvest sample is valuable evidence of successful reproduction, but it cannot by itself reveal the original proportions of self- and cross-pollen deposited during bloom.
