Flowering & PollinationWhy does mesh size matter when interpreting mango pollinator-exclusion experiments?
A screen can exclude larger visitors while still admitting smaller insects. Mango studies have used selective exclusion to investigate different visitor groups, so the treatment is not necessarily equivalent to complete insect exclusion. State the mesh arrangement and check which visitors actually enter. Otherwise fruit production inside an enclosure could be incorrectly attributed to wind or automatic self-pollination despite continued access by small insects.
