An insect can carry pollen from nearby plants as well as mango. Researchers have prepared reference images of local pollen to distinguish those sources before counting mango grains. Keep specimen preparation and identification methods consistent. A large total pollen load cannot be interpreted as a large mango pollen load unless the grains were identified appropriately, especially in an orchard with diverse flowering vegetation.
