Mango FAQ

1 FAQ

Flowering & PollinationWhat are the staminodes visible beside a mango flower's fertile stamens?

Staminodes are reduced, nonfunctional stamens rather than additional pollen-bearing anthers. Distinguish them when examining flower anatomy or selecting a pollen source under magnification. Counting every small projection around the flower as a productive stamen can misdescribe its pollen supply. Use a botanical reference and identify actual anthers instead of inferring reproductive function solely from the number of similar-looking structures.
