Flowering & PollinationHow is mango stigma receptivity different from pollen viability?
Pollen viability concerns the functional condition of the male material; stigma receptivity concerns the receiving flower's capacity to support the early pollination process. Both sides must be suitable at the relevant time. A good pollen test cannot establish that a particular recipient was receptive, so controlled crosses should record flower stage and recipient condition instead of evaluating the pollen source alone.
