Flowering & PollinationWhat is emasculation in a controlled mango cross?
Emasculation removes the recipient flower's stamens to reduce the opportunity for its own pollen to enter the intended cross. It is a delicate experimental operation on a small flower, not routine orchard pruning. Identify the recipient correctly, prevent unwanted pollen delivery, and record the manipulation. Removing stamens alone does not establish the eventual seed's father or replace appropriate controls.
