Mango FAQ

1 FAQ

Flowering & PollinationWhy is aniline-blue fluorescence used to examine pollen tubes inside mango pistils?

The staining method makes callose associated with pollen tubes visible under suitable fluorescence microscopy, helping researchers trace tubes within prepared pistil tissues. It is different from looking for loose pollen on the flower surface. Interpret the signal with the preparation method, sampling time, and tissue landmarks. A bright region alone does not establish that a tube reached the ovule or that fertilization was completed.
