Mango FAQ

1 FAQ

Flowering & PollinationWhat does geitonogamy mean when an insect moves between mango flowers?

Geitonogamy is pollen transfer between different flowers on the same plant. The insect has moved between flowers, but the pollen is still from that plant rather than a genetically different pollen parent. Distinguish this route from within-flower self-pollination and from movement between trees when recording visits. Movement across a large panicle alone is not evidence of outcrossing.
