Flowering & PollinationWhat does the tapetum do inside a developing mango anther?
The tapetum is a specialized tissue surrounding the developing pollen within the anther and contributes to its development. It is not the exposed stigma that receives pollen later. Its condition can matter before flowers open, so a study of mature pollen alone may miss the developmental setting in which abnormalities originated.
