Fruit Development, Ripening & HarvestCan a mango sample that dries out before its first weighing give a misleading maturity result?
Yes. Dry matter compares the dried sample with its original fresh weight. If cut tissue loses water before that first weight is recorded, the starting weight no longer represents the freshly prepared sample, and the calculated proportion of solids can be overstated. Prepare and weigh samples according to the same documented method. Record a handling delay instead of quietly treating the resulting value as directly comparable with promptly weighed samples.
