Mango FAQ

1 FAQ

Fruit Development, Ripening & HarvestDoes averaging individual mango dry matter percentages equal testing one pooled sample?

Not necessarily. A pooled result reflects the amount of tissue contributed by each fruit, whereas a simple average gives every individual percentage equal weight. Unequal contributions can therefore change the outcome. More importantly, pooling hides which mangoes were below the relevant maturity reference. Keep individual results when the purpose is to locate immature fruit within a proposed picking group.
