Mango FAQ

1 FAQ

Fruit Development, Ripening & HarvestWhat are mango nubbins, and why should they be separated from ordinary small fruit in crop observations?

Nubbins are unusually small fruit associated with failure of the developing embryo, rather than simply young mangoes waiting to enlarge. Controlled research has linked their formation to unfavorable temperatures soon after pollination. Open representative examples when investigating a recurring group of stunted fruit and record seed development separately from fruit size. Do not assume that extra time or fertilizer will make every such fruit follow normal development.
