Mango FAQ

1 FAQ

Fruit Development, Ripening & HarvestWhy can conditions early in mango fruit growth affect final size even after weather improves?

Early fruit growth includes cell division, followed by a longer period dominated by enlargement of existing cells. Anatomical work has related differences in mature mango size largely to cell number. Keep early development conditions with the harvest record, rather than examining only the final weeks before picking. Later improvement in appearance does not demonstrate that every earlier developmental limitation has been erased.
