Fruit Development, Ripening & HarvestWhy is locating a mango in an image not enough for a harvesting robot to pick it?
The machine also needs a feasible approach and a way to support the fruit while separating its stalk. A visible mango can have a stem hidden by foliage, which is a different perception problem from finding the fruit body. Evaluate completed harvests under real canopy conditions rather than detection accuracy alone. Include damage and failed approaches when assessing whether a robotic system can replace a particular picking task.
