Fruit Development, Ripening & HarvestWhy do some optical mango studies distinguish light absorption from light scattering?
Absorption relates to compounds interacting with light, while scattering also reflects tissue structure and interfaces. Specialized reflectance methods separate these contributions to study ripening changes. Ask which optical property a proposed sensor actually uses before interpreting its output as pigment, composition, or firmness. Two devices both described as optical maturity sensors may rely on different signals and therefore require different reference measurements and validation.
