Fruit Development, Ripening & HarvestDoes a nondestructive optical reading necessarily represent the entire interior of a mango?
No. The tissue volume sampled depends on the optical technique, wavelength, and arrangement of illumination and collection. Mango research distinguishes methods that probe different depths. Ask how the sensing volume relates to the quality attribute being predicted, especially for localized internal defects. A good estimate from the sampled region should not be described as direct inspection of every part of the fruit.
