An absorbance-difference index uses readings near the chlorophyll absorption region to follow a pigment-related signal. Brix estimates soluble solids from a juice sample, so the measurements are not interchangeable quantities. Mango research has examined relationships between the index and maturity attributes, but a grower still needs validation for the material and conditions being assessed. Do not convert an index value directly into sweetness without supporting calibration.
