Zeroing or taring removes an offset or container contribution; it does not demonstrate that the instrument reads a known load correctly. Verify performance with suitable reference weights and the manufacturer's procedure across the working range. A balance that returns neatly to zero can still distort fresh and dry sample weights. Keep accuracy checks separate from the routine tare recorded during a maturity test.
