After the jars have cooled and their seals have been checked, storing without screw bands helps reveal seal failure and avoids trapped moisture and corrosion around the lid. Follow the preservation method's cooling and seal-check directions before removing them. A band is not a device for holding a failed seal shut, and tightening one later does not repair an improperly processed mango preserve.
