Mango FAQ

1 FAQ

Pests, Diseases & DisordersWhat separates mango tipborer injury from fruitspotting bug injury on a wilted shoot?

Examine the stem as well as its drooping leaves. Fruitspotting bug feeding can leave grooves along young stems, while mango tipborer feeding can hollow the stem internally. With a suitable fresh sample, a lengthwise cut may expose a tunnel and sometimes a caterpillar. Keep photographs of the intact shoot before opening it. These different feeding patterns help direct identification; wilting alone cannot tell you which insect was involved.
