Black spot bacteria can persist in stem lesions that act as reservoirs for later spread. A tree carrying no fruit can therefore still contain important infection sources. Mark confirmed cankers and discuss selective removal and tool hygiene with an adviser. Evaluate success through subsequent healthy growth, while recognizing that cleaning up affected fruit alone does not address bacteria surviving elsewhere on the tree.
