Adults can survive through non-fruiting periods in sheltered bark, litter, or infested seeds, and some live beyond a single crop season. A poor harvest therefore does not establish that the pest disappeared. Resume locally appropriate monitoring when growth and flowering return. Keep nearby unmanaged trees and retained seed waste in the assessment rather than attributing renewed activity only to a recent delivery of fruit.
