Early feeding tunnels and entry wounds can become obscured as fruit and seed develop. An unmarked peel or apparently intact seed coat therefore cannot reliably exclude infestation. For a diagnostic assessment, cut representative seeds as instructed and preserve their lot identity. This is different from finding an exit hole after adult emergence, so record which stage of damage was actually observed rather than treating all holes as equivalent.
