Some aphids become swollen, hardened mummies after parasitoid development. Check for the characteristic emergence hole and obtain help distinguishing mummies from living aphids or shed skins. Keep them separate in monitoring counts. Their presence shows that natural enemies are active, although it does not establish that every surviving aphid is parasitized or that fresh injury has stopped.
