Mango FAQ

1 FAQ

Pests, Diseases & DisordersShould swollen mango roots be interpreted as beneficial nitrogen-fixing legume nodules?

Mango is not a legume, and unexplained root swellings should not be dismissed as the familiar nitrogen-fixing nodules of beans or peas. Root-knot nematodes are one possible cause of galled roots, but appearance alone does not identify every swelling. Arrange examination of suitable root and soil samples with a diagnostic laboratory rather than treating the growths as proof of either helpful nitrogen fixation or a specific nematode.
