A reading from the glazing or roof describes that surface, not necessarily the air or foliage around the tree. Check what the instrument measures and where it is aimed before comparing its number with a plant-level thermometer. Use consistent measurement locations when evaluating shelter changes. A warm roof in sunshine or a cold pane overnight can coexist with different conditions inside the canopy, so those readings should not be treated as interchangeable.
