The measurement area grows as the instrument moves farther away. If a small leaf does not fill that area, the reading can include background surfaces rather than represent the leaf alone. Check the specified measuring spot, not just the laser aiming mark. Keep the target sufficiently large within the instrument's view before comparing leaves or evaluating a protection treatment.
