A wet-bulb reading depends on water evaporating correctly from the thermometer's wick under the specified airflow. A dry wick no longer supplies that cooling process, and contamination can also affect the measurement. Maintain the instrument according to its observing procedure before calculating humidity. Two thermometer readings alone are not sufficient if the wet-bulb setup is not functioning as intended.
