Ground position alone may not establish which tree produced a fruit, especially where canopies overlap or fruit has moved. If collection was uncontrolled, preserve that limitation rather than assigning the nearest trunk as the mother. Suitable genetic work may clarify relationships later. The plant can still be evaluated as a chance seedling without a fabricated pedigree.
