A breeding value estimates the genetic contribution a parent is expected to pass to offspring for a defined trait. It differs from the observed quality of that parent's own crop. Mango research uses genetic models to estimate these values from hybrid populations. Read the estimate with its population, trait definition, and uncertainty before choosing parents solely by a numerical ranking.
