Mango FAQ

1 FAQ

Seeds, Rootstocks & BreedingShould the thin brown covering on a mango kernel be removed like the woody stone?

The thin tissue around the kernel and the hard outer stone are different structures. Mango propagation guidance reports no germination advantage from removing the thin covering. Avoid damaging a sound kernel merely to make it look completely peeled. Removing the woody enclosure can aid inspection, but that does not mean every remaining layer needs to be stripped away.
