Not by itself. Genotypes normally used while young may not have been assessed for disease and quality at full maturity. Research screening traditional pickle mangoes found that later fruit assessment could reveal a different picture. Evaluate the stage required by the breeding objective. A useful green-fruit parent may remain valuable without having demonstrated resistance in ripe dessert fruit.
