Mechanical injury can affect subsequent deterioration and ripening as well as immediate appearance. Research on transport mitigation follows fruit quality after the movement stage. Keep a representative sample under the intended later conditions and compare acceptable output. An undamaged-looking carton at unloading is useful evidence, but it does not establish that the fruit will perform well through the buyer's selling period.
