Grafting & PropagationHow do I graft a mango tree?
Grafting joins a piece of a selected mango variety, called the scion, to a compatible mango rootstock so they grow together. Start with healthy actively growing stock, suitable mature scionwood, a clean sharp tool, and a method such as cleft or veneer grafting that you can perform safely. Make matching cuts, align living cambium along at least one side, bind the union securely, and protect the scion from drying and excessive sun. Keep rootstock shoots from taking over, and wait for a sound union before removing protection or putting stress on the graft.
